Awesomeball: The New Sport
I have been listening to sports talk radio and it seems like everyday its the same old same old happening. What the sporting world needs is a new sport. A sport for the 21st century. And that sport is Awesomeball. Picture a game of multiple individuals, no teams; a mix of sumo wrestling and North American football. That’s Awesomeball!
- How To Play
- A player scores a Force by forcing out an opponent while in possession of the Awesomeball within the five minute Decaterm.
- The Playing Surface
- A circular area with a 25 foot radius. At the centre of the circle is a dot. The full circular area is called the Awesomecircle and the dot is called the Awesomedot. Outside the Awesomecircle, another ten feet would be sufficient for benches and just general room to move and breath. Seats for viewing would be placed behind that ten foot barrier.
- Starting A Game
- Awesomeball can be played with any number of players greater than two. All players must begin the game standing outside the 25 foot circle. At the start of the Decaterm, the players must rush to get the Awesomeball situated on the Awesomedot.
- Playing Awesomeball
- The game is made up of ten five minute Decaterms. The clock runs continuously throughout the Decaterm. The player with the most Forces at the end of the tenth Decaterm is the winner. Should there be two or more players tied for the lead a Forceoff takes place. All players tied for the lead play a timeless period in which a player cannot return to the Awesomecircle once pushed out for a Force.
- The Ball
- The Awesomeball is a perfectly round sphere with a five inch radius. The ball is made from a cushiony sponge-like substance to allow for easy gripping with one hand, regardless of the size of the hand.
- Standard Rules
-
- Players can only push or carry other players. There is no punching, tripping or kicking allowed. Players who commit any of these Awesomefouls more than once will be disqualified from the game.
- The Awesomeball is replaced at the Awesomedot for the start of each Decaterm and Forceoff.
- Players must wait five seconds to return to the Awesomecircle after being Forced out. But a player must not wait more than ten seconds to return. Failure to return is counted as an Awesomefoul. This only applies to Decaterms. Players cannot return to the Awesomecircle once Forced out in a Forceoff.
- A player is forced out when pushed or thrown out of the Awesomecircle. The entire player does not have to cross the line, as long as any part of the player touches the floor/ground outside the Awesomecircle.
- Players can throw the Awesomeball should they choose to throw the Awesomeball.
- If a player voluntarily leaves the Awesomecircle without having been in contact with the ball holder during play, that player’s score is deducted one Force. Therefore a negative score is possible.
- Officiating
- The game is officiated by two Awesomeumpires moving around the outside of the Awesomecircle. They are assisted by two Awesometimers who time Forced out players. It is the responsibility of the Awesomeumpire to determine Awesomefouls and Forces and the responsibility of the Awesometimers to determine when players can return to the Awesomecircle..
- Variations
-
- Full Contact Awesomeball
- Played the same except that there are no Awesomefouls called for improper physical contact.
- Team Awesomeball
- Players are divided into equal groups. Groups are not limited to two teams though. Scoring Forces are identical. There is no need to Forceout each member of an opposing team.
- Bungee Awesomeball
- The Awesomeball is attached to a bungee cord situated on the Awesomedot.
- Super-mega-uber-Awesomeball
- All three previous variations of Awesomeball, simultaneously.
