It has been amazing. I’ve had a decent amount of sleep in the past couple of weeks. But for the past two nights, no sleep.
One of my usual early morning pasttimes, watching CNN hasn’t been doing it for me. All CNN is covering lately has been the primaries. Sure, picking the President is important and people can’t wait to see President Bush take a hike, but it seems like this campaign started a year ago. These campaigns need to take some time off, give use news junkies a break, something else to get all worked up about. I haven’t seen one mention of CNN’s extreme weather. Or how about the fact that Polaroid is downsizing to 150 employees. This is a company that used to employ 21,000. If you ask me, that’s a news story, the downfall of Polaroid.
I ended up watching the west coast feed of Sportsnet Connected. Still, more talk on the Richard Zednik incident. (For those who don’t know, Richard Zednik is a hockey player who took a skate blade to the neck and lost nearly two litres of blood or half a gallon on the ice.) This is the second time in recent memory of something like this happening in the National Hockey League. I’ve seen both incidents and I’m still amazed that neither player collapsed or freaked out. They both immediately covered up and let the paramedics do their job. It was the quick response by the injured players that saved them from dying right there on the ice. I don’t know what I’d do if I was all-of-a-sudden gushing blood from my neck.

the seriously JUST did the extreme weather thing on CNN. I’d actually never seen it before.
they also have some really scary guy screaming about a skate board. CNN confuses me sometimes, but I can’t handle fox or msnbc, so I guess i’ll be sticking to this.
and anderson cooper is kinda hot. even if he is gay.
and i like the name wolf blitzer.
so yes. cnn.

That Richard Zednik thing was hardcore. ESPN needs to stop playing it every three seconds, but I’m amazed he was able to get up and skate to help. I always sort of thought a serious cut in that area = game over.
I’m also amazed this sort of thing doesn’t happen more often, but I’m glad it apparently doesn’t.

That is just like “Blades of Glory”. Only in the movie it decapitates the person. ew

Maxie - Anderson Cooper is gay? Really?
Dan - In the Canada, TSN didn’t show any blood, Sportsnet showed the first two spurts.
JLee - if you’re referring to a Will Ferrell movie, I’ll pass.

Oh yeah, I am sick of hearing about the candidates as well. Seriously… why do they start so early? I usually don’t read up, until it’s time to cast a vote. Or sometimes, I make my decision early. Either way it’s TOO much.
I didn’t even hear about the Zednik thing. Sounds pretty scary. Lots of blood means a meltdown on my part… worse if it’s MY blood.
You’ll pass on Will Ferrell…??? I know I’m new here, but let me go ahead and state my shock and disbelief at that statement. Wow.
Maxie // February 13, 2008 at 11:47 am
I don’t know if he’s really gay, but everyone says he is. Who knows?
Random Chick // February 13, 2008 at 11:57 am
Yeah, why the hell does it have to take so long to elect a President? Can’t we just get it over in like one week? They all say the same damn things over and over, point fingers at each other over and over, and tell us they’re all for “change” over and over. It gives me a migraine.
YIKES! On the hockey thing. This is why I don’t watch hockey. Who wants to see a bunch of blood on the ice? Blech. I’m glad that guy survived tho.
I used to love Will Ferrell, especially when he did “W” Bush. He was hilarious! Now it seems like every movie he does, he’s basically the same character… just cut and paste into the next movie. Boring!!!

Ugh this candidate crap reminds me of when the Olympics are on….enough already!!!!
Jillian // February 13, 2008 at 12:24 pm
LOL @ Random. We’re supposed to agree on everything!!!
I’m notifying the Official Will Ferrel Fan Club of America, expect something in the mail… something sinister.
Same character, indeed.

I saw that skating incident too, and I’d freak out - or at least skate off the ice faster. I’ve heard those skates are sharp as hell, and it’s a small wonder weird stuff like that doesn’t happen more often.
whatigotsofar // February 13, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Jillian - I think Will Ferrell can make a decent straightman, but his oddball physical comedy stuff does nothing for me. It feels as though many times half the joke is the fact that he’s Will Ferrell.
Maxie - I would be surprised if he was gay.
Random Chick - I think the same people who watch Nascar for the crashes would enjoy seeing blood on the ice.
Miss Ash - don’t get me started on the Olympics.
BDS - I remember watching a news story a while back about how skate manufactureres have been able to make skates that don’t need to be as sharp. Skates are big news up here in the Canada. They are the national footwear.
Miss Ash // February 13, 2008 at 2:26 pm
Do we agree on something again???? This has to stop!
whatigotsofar // February 13, 2008 at 2:27 pm
We’ll always have N********k.

I totally watch CNN in the early morning too when I can’t sleep. Puts me right out.
I find the U.S. election system totally fucked up.
whatigotsofar // February 13, 2008 at 2:48 pm
I actually prefer the American system to our Canadian system of picking candidates. In the US, the primaries are basically like a sport’s regular season and the Presidential election in November is the Championship Game. I just think there is way too much time spent reporting the primaries.
Sparkling Red // February 13, 2008 at 3:06 pm
It bugs me that even CBC has been doing the primaries to death. Come on! I know that U.S. politics affect Canada intimately, but let’s not get carried away with the play by play.

I heard about the blade accident on the news. Ouch. They really are that sharp huh?
My insomnia has come back too!
angelcjr // February 13, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Hey, where did my original comment go?
whatigotsofar // February 13, 2008 at 8:29 pm
Spark - I have no tolerance for the CBC’s news department.
Angel - I’ve been thinking my insomnia recently is stemmed by my recent and sudden decrease of black tea consumption and the increase of coca-cola consumption.
