Music Guessing Game

Filed under: Music — Tags: — whatigotsofar @ 6:45 pm

Ladies and gentlemen, I’ve come up with a music guessing game. It’s not very original, many radio stations do little games like this all the time. How to play is real simple. You click that link down there that says “music guessing game 1″ and download the mp3 file. Listen to the mp3. It’s about 20 seconds long and contains snippets of 10 songs. All you have to do is figure out each song title and artist. Each song you get right is worth one point per round. There will be four rounds. You can post your answers in the comments (and help out the very people you’re competing against) or you can drop me an email at whatigotsofar at gmail dot com. The final winner will receive an iTunes gift certificate or something like that.

But keep in mind, this isn’t going to be easy. Okay, this first round is going to be easy. But each round is going to get progressively harder.

Round one ends 11:59PM (my timezone), April 23rd, 2008. Have fun and good luck.

  1. I can’t believe I actually knew most of these on the first listen.
Okay so the first on is, Heat of the Moment by Asia, that was obvi. Second one was, Like a Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan. Third was Paradise City by the good ol’ Guns N’ Roses. I don’t know the Fourth one. 5th one of course, You shook me all night long by AC/DC. Sixth was Johnny B. Goode, by Chuck Berry. 7th, No effin’ clue, sounded like some 90’s dance or something. 8th of course Don’t Stop believin’ by Journey, which will probably be the song my father will be walking me down the aisle to.. And the last one, is a band I hate just as much as Bon Jovi, U2 – Mysterious Ways.
I hope I did good, I really only listened to the clip 3 times! :)

  2. P.S. I think I’m missing one in there.. maybe?

  3. Wow, Sarebeth did awesome. I really suck at this stuff. I can add to her list though and say that Bryan Adams’ “Summer of ‘69″ was in there before “You Shook me all Night Long”.

  5. I recognize most of the songs after listening to it once but I am unsure how many names I actually know.

  6. how important is spelling?

    Comment by Bob at York — April 17, 2008 @ 9:49 am

  7. sarebeth – yeah, one…

Grace – you have to give the names of the artists as well as the song title for a point.

Miss Ash – but I’m pretty sure you gotta better score then either of them.

Bob – these are some pretty obvious tunes here.

  8. I’m a day late and a dollar short as usual…

  9. Showed up to this too late, obviously. Still — cool idea.

  10. WIGSF, it is the NOT obvious one that I am having trouble with. I can hear it clear as day but as you know, I am not good at this game. I am googling and finding nothing. I keep singing the song in my head and I can’t figure out what it is.

Meanwhile, I am unsure why JLee and Dan think they are late. This is only rd. 1 and the deadline isn’t for a few days. I am just sad because I wanted to be the first person in with a perfect score and I don’t think that is possible anymore.

  11. JLee & Dan – you’ve got until the end of the 23rd to submit your answers. Some of your fellow readers have already given you a headstart if you read the comments.

Bob & everyone else – Spelling is not important. Here’s an example: if the song is Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody but you spell it “Bahamian Rapsodee” I’ll give it to you. If you call it the “Galileo song” you won’t get it.

  12. Damn, I thought with the titles of some of the songs that spelling was important. Oh well, good to know for the next round!

  13. I’m going to wait and then just copy. Is that wrong? ;)

    Cxx

  14. Well Claire, you would be assuming that people are posting the correct answers here.

  15. awe.. maaaaaaan!

  16. I want to do the same thing Claire is doing…and, no, it isn’t wrong! :-)

    I think I’m too late anyway…

  17. I wouldn’t even dare to try, I didn’t recognize more of the beginning ones. I was just adding to Sarebeth’s list… you can give her the one point that I got.
