Music Guessing Game: Expert Round

Wow, that second round did not really thin the herd. Okay, it did, but the competition at the top seems a bit closer now. Somebody has climbed up and snagged the top spot. Great! Here are the scores after two rounds (individual round scores in the parentheses):

Miss Ash: 27 ( 7/20 )
Bob: 26 ( 10/16 )
Maxie: 17 ( 3/14 )
Darshan: 10 ( 10/0 )
Grace: 7 ( 1/6 )*
Sarebeth: 6 ( 6/0 )

* Grace, I’m still not sure what sort of punishment to dole out on you. Maybe I’ll deduct some points. Maybe I’ll just ridicule you on a daily basis. I haven’t decided yet.

Here is the expert round mp3. Good luck everybody. You sure will need it. Each correct song and artist is worth 3 points this time. Submissions will be accepted upto May 7th, 2008 at 11:59PM my time.

If you’re not sure which ones you missed, confirm your answers with Miss Ash, she got all ten songs right.

  1. Maxie Says:

did you do one point for song title and one point for artist this time?

  2. whatigotsofar Says:

    Nope, all or nothing.

  3. Bob Says:

Damn there was a 10th song last time? I completely missed it whatever it was. Miss Ash you need to help me out with this one.

  4. grace Says:

Yay! I’m not at the bottom anymore (sorry Sarebeth, it just feels so good).

And WIGSF, if it will settle things, I’ll apologize publicly: I’m sorry for thinking that you liked Vanilla Ice. I just heard it again, and I still swear that the clip is Ice Ice Baby. My bad. The thought will never cross my mind again… promise.

  5. Bob Says:

    hahahahahahahahahaha!

I knew he didn’t like Vanilla Ice. I still double-checked to make sure he wasn’t using reverse psychology on us. There is a definite difference between the two.

I still want to hear about what I missed. I am surprised I missed a song totally and I really want to know the name of the song that I missed. I knew it sounded like the answer but I was not confident.

  6. Bob Says:

You guys are so screwed now. I decided to open these things in Windows Media player instead of iTunes. Now I can actually hear all the songs!

  7. Miss Ash Says:

    Yeah that’s right!!! Yay me!!

Hmm now Bob wants my help…….where was he 2 rounds ago when I needed help??

Umm and Vanilla Ice LMAO i’m assuming that was the queen/bowie one hahahahaha!

  8. grace Says:

lol, see? I’m getting laughed at enough over here… no need to deduct any points from me WIGSF.

  9. whatigotsofar Says:

Grace - Maybe I expected too much from a Bon Jovi fan. (Bon Jovi is from New Jersey.)

Bob - Lemme guess. You’ve got iTunes setup with the song-merging feature so the end of every song and beginning of the next song is joined together so you’d miss the last 2 seconds of song A and the first 2 seconds of song B. Ha! Learn to use your media players dude.

Miss Ash - Rub it in some more! But don’t get too cocky. This next round is much tougher.

  10. Bob Says:

I don’t know how to set up iTunes, that is the default and it is how I almost missed “Help!” and completely missed the other one.

Miss Ash, I am not asking for help. I just want to know the answers. WIGSF doesn’t post them so somebody needs to. I want to know the song after the Queen/Bowie song. I don’t remember you asking for me to post the answers.

  11. Bob Says:

wait…. is this the last round or is there more?

  12. Miss Ash Says:

Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple

I asked WIGSF to post the answers once the round was up so we could see what mistakes we have made. Guess he doesn’t want to.

  13. sarebeth Says:

Awe.. I didn’t get much of a chance to do these.. I’m trailing!

  14. whatigotsofar Says:

Lotsa time left. Round 3 offers upto 30 points and the final round will offer upto 40.

  15. grace Says:

I can’t figure out the first, second, fifth, sixth, or eighth songs (although I recognize the artist from #5, but don’t know which song it is). I’m assuming there’s no Vanilla Ice in this round… I need help.

  16. Bob Says:

Interesting grace… maybe we can make a trade. The 7th song for the 8th song.

Oh and Miss Ash, “Smoke on the Water” was before the Queen song. I am looking for the one that was after. It was the only one that had me stumped. I kept thinking it was a Metallica song and I finally found it but I noticed although the chords were identical the actual instruments were not exactly the same. I then hoped one of the ones was a different version.

  17. Miss Ash Says:

Ohhh Radiohead Street Spirt, I freaking love that song!!

  18. Bob Says:

crap! Thanks. I don’t think i have ever heard the song before, maybe once at Boston’s place. I was so close because I swear the exact same notes are played in Metallica - Unforgiven I.

So how you doing? I am almost done! :)

  19. whatigotsofar Says:

Grace - it is always safe to assume there is no Vanilla Ice. All your education and schooling and nobody taught you that. For shame doc.

Bob - Are you googling the chord sequences for these songs?

Miss Ash - You would probably hate it with a passion, but have you heard The Darkness’ cover of Street Spirit? Although its not very good, it shows the music of Radiohead in a different light: a light that I believe the music should be shown in. For contrast, if for nothing else.

  20. grace Says:

    It’s a deal Bob!

  21. grace Says:

    Can’t find you e-mail address though…

  22. whatigotsofar Says:

Bob - whats up dude. Last round you were trying to team up with Maxie, now Grace. Jeez dude, you’re turning into a man-whore… My work here is almost done.

  23. Bob Says:

One was a team-up, this is a trade. There is a big difference. Oh and no I am not googling sound chords. I wouldn’t know how to do that, my piano lessons were a LONG time ago. I just recognized the music from Metallica. I listened to a bunch of metallica songs at work and got the incorrect answer!

  24. grace Says:

Exactly, we’re just making a fair exchange. Now how does that translate into man-whoredom? Well anyways, Bob, drop be a line at grace2495@hotmail.com, and I’ll make it worth your while… ;)

  25. Bob Says:

You didn’t need to post it here. It showed up in my email when you posted in my blog. It’s funny when you told me what song it was from, I was sceptical. It wasn’t a WIGSF song but I confirmed it. Nice doing business with you Grace.

Maxie message me when you see this. We are almost done!

  26. whatigotsofar Says:

Bob, do me a favour. Describe what a WIGSF song is, please. That was a topic me and my friends covered a lot in high school, but I’d like to know how you describe it. You, not having been privy to those discussions. I’d just like to get your take.

  27. Bob Says:

It is tough to explain. I think it is easier to explain what it is not:

It is not a hip-hop song, not a rap song, not a “dance” song. That is what I meant by not a WIGSF song. After eliminating all that then I can honestly say you like classic rock but beyond that I am not really “down” with all the new names for all the genres of rock so I can’t really say you don’t like “alternative” or something like that. Because I wouldn’t be surprised if you did like some alternative stuff. You also like some country music too but you are particular about that too and I don’t know the exact parameters that the song has to fall under. So in conclusion, I don’t know what a WIGSF song is but I believe I know what is NOT a WIGSF song.

  28. whatigotsofar Says:

It is very easy to explain: a WIGSF song is good.

  29. Bob Says:

So if it is a good hip-hop song than it is a WIGSF song?

  30. whatigotsofar Says:

    good hip-hop is an oxymoron.

  31. Bob Says:

so you are saying I am correct?

  32. grace Says:

Do you like any hip-hop WIGSF?

  33. sarebeth Says:

I don’t wanna give all my answers right on here again, so others can see them..
    Like I said I’m a sore loser!
    email em to ya?

  34. Bob Says:

You should post your answers again. If I remember correctly half of them were wrong last time and I am sure some people copied yours. :)

  35. whatigotsofar Says:

Bob - you are correct sir.

Grace - I prefer Bon Jovi. You know them, they’re from New Jersey. (I can’t stop. Please help me.)

Sarebeth - whatigotsofar (at) gmail (dot) com. But I must say, you gotta do pretty good. Miss Ash and Bob are doing pretty good. But with a good score in this round you can make up a lot of ground.

Bob again - Watch what ya say. Sarebeth is ready and willing to throw down.

  36. grace Says:

You know what question I should have submitted when you were asking for questions before the Bon Jovi interview? I should have asked where they were from… it’s something that I’ve always wondered about.

And yes, I think you have a problem…
